Heightened Scrutiny is a podcast about the Supreme Court's landmark civil rights cases, meant to be accessible to anyone interested in constitutional law and the stories behind the decisions that have dramatically changed American society and government. It is not just for lawyers.

The podcast is written, hosted, and produced by Joe Dunman, a professor and attorney who suffers from an incurable obsession with the Supreme Court and constitutional law.

Joe is an Assistant Professor at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in Kentucky. Previously, he taught undergraduate courses on constitutional law at Morehead State University and Bellarmine University

I listened this morning to the first two episodes of your podcast. Great stuff. Accessible to the layperson, but enough meat on the bone to satisfy somebody like myself that has studied and worked with this material for many years.
— Russ Ambrose, Listener

Joe's notable legal work includes his role as counsel for the Kentucky plaintiffs in Obergefell v. Hodges (originally Bourke v. Beshear), the Supreme Court's landmark marriage equality case. To learn more, check out Love v. Kentucky, a documentary about the Kentucky plaintiffs and attorneys. Joe has also represented numerous clients before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Joe also served as the Managing Attorney for the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights before returning to teaching in 2023.
